How to convert a Hand Drill into a Drill Press

Now that you have all the ingredients, it’s time to cook, or in this case to convert.

Remove the clamp from your drill; you won’t be needing it anymore. Replace it with the clamp of the drill press. Most drill press stands come in U shape and have a heavy wire with 2 nuts on the bottom.

Put the hand drill into the frame with the handle facing away from the position of the drill press stand. Swap the clamp and tighten the nuts firmly. This will secure the drill and give you a steady continuous workflow.

Mount it! It is crucial that you do not forget this step. If possible, mount the drill press stand on to a workbench this will provide additional stability.

If a workbench is not available, you can always use a piece of plywood (about ¾ inches) or a piece of board. This alternative workbench need to be larger than the base of the stand.

Friendly advice

Always have in mind that this is not a regular drill press and that you cannot use it for drilling bigger metal holes or extremely hard wood. Safety is the most important thing, so better be safe and follow the safety measures than be sorry later.

And that’s it, your hand drill has become a drill press for less than 40 $ and in just a few minutes. Now you are ready to drill.
